Types of Graves at St. Johannis Cemetery

Why is a Grave Important? A personal grave provides a place of remembrance for loved ones who have passed away. It offers relatives and friends a dedicated space to say goodbye, reflect, and gradually come to terms with their grief.

Depending on the chosen form of burial (earth burial or urn burial), there are several types of graves available at St. Johannis Cemetery:

  • Double-depth earth grave with a flat tombstone, accommodating up to 6 urns

Johannis II

  • Double-depth earth grave with a flat tombstone for 2 burials or up to 6 urns

  • Double-depth earth grave with an upright headstone for 2 burials or up to 6 urns (planting possible)

St. John’s Cemetery is a protected historical monument due to its 500-year history and unique character.

Therefore, certain regulations must be observed by grave owners:

The maintenance and restoration of the gravestones may only be carried out by an approved specialist company and require an application through the heritage conservation authority.

The restoration or new purchase of an epitaph can be commissioned from approved specialist companies.

The bronze plaques (epitaphs) tell the story of the graves and remain as a testament on the gravestone.

Your own name can be added through a new epitaph or by supplementing an existing one.

Further regulations can be found in the tombstone regulations and the associated heritage conservation requirements.
